Monthly Tips
Do you want to help with your child's water confidence
in-between classes?
On this page we have included fun tips that you can practice
with your children. All of our tips will build on what is
taught in the lessons and will aid their swimming
progression. Keep visiting this page as we'll be
adding new ones throughout the year.
Adult & Child
Bath times are a fantastic opportunity to have fun
in the water and build water confidence. Try laying
them on their front or back and encourage them to
kick and splash the water. Plus if you wash water
over their face using the preparatory command used
in their class first i.e. ‘ready, go’ this will
create the link between what they learn in the
classes and the action. If you aren’t sure of the
command your teacher uses, just ask.
Non Swimmers
Bath/shower times are a fantastic opportunity to
have fun in the water and build water confidence.
Positively encourage blowing bubbles in the water,
progressing to blowing bubbles through their nose
and then putting their whole face under water. The
shower is also a great opportunity to get them used
to the water. Standing under the shower and letting
the water run over their hair and face, great fun!
At the pool practice ‘rockets’ (push and glide from
the side of the pool) encouraging them to put their
face in. If you aren’t sure what to do just ask your
teacher.
Improver 1
Dolphin leg kick is a fun technique to practice.
Encourage your child to ripple their body like a
dolphin with their legs together, kicking with both
legs at the same time, imagine they have to kick
both wellies off at the same time. Maybe chase the
Toypedo in the style of a Dolphin! If you aren’t
sure what to do just ask your teacher.
